Hi, I'm Peter Rolfe (A.K.A. "The Crucian Crusader") and I thought it was high time that the crucian had a website of its own. The idea is to provide a database of information and to gather together ideas and experiences to try to build up a really reliable resource for anglers, naturalists, conservationists, scientists, land-owners, fish farmers and dealers - in fact anyone who's interested in the species.
You can find out more about the site here.
The latest crucian news items and articles are below, the complete news archive can be found here.

The new Angling Trust website includes a great upgrade to the 'National Crucian Conservation Project' page.
Well worth a visit.

The 'Trent Otter' - J. W. Martin, the Man and His Fishing by Peter Rolfe
My book on "The Trent Otter" is coming out this autumn (2020). Here's a shot of the cover. In this book, I examine the life and work of one of the great Victorian/Edwardian angler-authors. There is a carefully researched biography and bibliography together with a generous selection of extracts from his writing in books and the Fishing Gazette, providing a more complete picture of this famous man than has previously been available.

This, a sequel of sorts to "The Net on the Garage Wall", called "One Last Cast". In it I've drawn a final line under my own angling and conservation experiences, bringing things as up-to-date as possible. It's a special book, with numerous fine drawings by Trevor Harrop. Just 200 copies were printed and it was published in December 2019.

I can't stop writing and so I've started work on a biography of one of the greatest of angling authors, J.W. Martin, 'The Trent Otter', with a copious selection of his best work. I'm looking forward hugely to working on that.
Watch this space!

After some superb photographs and some very tight judging decisions, the Angling Trust can announce the winners and runners-up of the fourth annual Catch a Crucian Photographic Competition organised in conjunction with the National Crucian Conservation Project.
Some very fine pictures on display and the eagle eyed may spot "The Upper Pond" in one of them.
